What this IBAN verification tool checks

The tool checks whether an entered IBAN has a recognizable country code, matches the expected country length, and passes the standard mod-97 checksum calculation.

Verify an IBAN number safely

You can use the result to catch common typing errors before using an IBAN, but you should still confirm payment details through trusted banking or business channels when money is involved.

What it cannot verify

This IBAN verification tool does not verify account existence, account holder identity, bank account status, or whether a payment will be accepted by a bank.

How IBAN verification works

Technical IBAN verification normalizes the input, moves the first four characters to the end, converts letters to numbers, and checks the result with the ISO 13616 mod-97 algorithm.

Privacy and safety note

This tool checks IBAN format and checksum only. It does not confirm that an account exists or who owns it. It is not an official banking confirmation.

FAQ

Is this a bank-provided IBAN verification service?

No. It is a technical format and checksum tool. It does not provide official confirmation from a bank, payment provider or account registry.

Can this identify who owns the account?

No. IBAN Tools does not verify who owns an account and cannot match an IBAN to a person or company.

Can this prove that an account is real or active?

No. A technically valid IBAN can still refer to a closed, inactive, mistyped or otherwise unusable payment destination.

What does a valid IBAN checksum mean?

It means the IBAN passes a mathematical check that helps detect many errors. It does not guarantee that the IBAN belongs to a real or active account.

Is my IBAN stored?

The tool is intended for on-page technical verification. IBAN input should not be stored, logged, or sent to analytics.
